Dr Lubna Alam has been elected as a Co-opt member of OWSD Malaysia

Dr. Lubna Alam, who is working as a Senior Lecturer at the National University of Malaysia, has been elected as a Co-opt member of OWSD Malaysia Chapter for a duration of 2020-2024. The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is an international organisation that provides research training, career development and networking opportunities for women scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their career. It was founded in 1987 and was officially launched in 1993. It is a program unit of UNESCO and based at the offices of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in Trieste, Italy. The organisation aims to unite eminent scientists from the developing and developed world with an objective of supporting their efforts in the development process. It also aims at promoting the representation of its members in the sphere of scientific and technological leadership. The OWSD Malaysia National Chapter was founded in 2011 and is based in Kuala Lumpur. The chapter aims to act as a platform - and a champion - to facilitate changes to the socio-economic structure, paving the way for women to excel and thrive in S&T.
Dr. Lubna has received her PhD in Ocean Science from the National University of Malaysia, MSc in Marine Science from the same university and BSc in Fisheries from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. She has more than 10 years’ experience in research and has built research networks between her University and Governmental/Non-Governmental Institutions. Furthermore, she has been awarded for the prestigious “Pan Asia Risk Reduction Fellowship” offered by START, USA and carried out collaborative research between the National University of Malaysia, START, USA and University of Philippines Los Banos. She has achieved TWAS-UNESCO fellowship offered by the world renowned organization “The World Academy of Sciences”. Moreover, she worked as an active committee member for developing course on “Fisheries and Climate change” at the Pukyong National University of South Korea, under the program of United Nations University. She has successfully coordinated training programs jointly organize by the national University of Malaysia and Ministry of Finance Bangladesh. Besides that, she has worked as an expert reviewer of IPCC’s reports on climate change. Most recently, Dr. Lubna has been invited as a Visiting Faculty for conducting summer program at the Asian University for Women, Bangladesh.
